The Thames Tunnel project is expected to take six to seven years to construct but there is a lot of work to do before we can start building.

Our first phase of public consultation (13 September 2010 – 14 January 2011) gave people an opportunity to comment on our initial plans. Feedback from this consultation has helped identify some alternative options for the location and use of some sites.

Further technical studies and comments from phase one consultation helped us refine our preferred scheme. Phase two consultation will last for 14 weeks from 4 November 2011 to 10 February 2012 and will inform our planning consent application.

We expect to publicise our proposed planning consent application in mid 2012, having incorporated the changes we make as a result of this second phase of consultation. You will have another chance to comment on our proposals at that stage.

We will continue our dialogue with consultees up to, and following, the submission of our planning consent application to ensure that we keep interested parties informed.

Subject to approval, our provisional start date for the construction period is 2016.
