In our application for development consent this site is used to intercept the Deptford Storm Relief combined sewer overflow (CSO).
The Deptford Church Street site comprises an area of public open space known as the Crossfield Street Open Space and an area within the highway. The location of the site is shown below.
Construction is assumed to start in 2016 and be completed by 2020. Where appropriate some advance works may be carried out before the main construction period.
Work includes construction of underground structures to connect the CSO to a shaft approximately 48 metres deep with an internal diameter of approximately 17 metres. This shaft would transfer sewage flows from the CSO to the Greenwich connection tunnel.
A temporary cradle would be constructed to receive the tunnel boring machine from Greenwich Pumping Station, and it would then be re-launched to Earl Pumping Station.
While most of the operational structures would be underground, four ventilation columns would be permanent above ground features. The ventilation columns would be located in the southeast area of the site.
