Members of the Thames Tunnel Communications Team joined Thames21 at Battersea Bridge today to help deep clean the river on the lowest tide of the year.
Over 40 volunteers donned steel toe capped boots and protective gloves to haul a wide range of litter from the river bed, including sewage-derived items, such as condoms, sanitary towels and cotton buds. Other items retrieved included plastic bags, bottles, traffic cones and car tyres.
Last Thames21 Deep Clean removed almost nine tonnes of litter from the river.
The charity is hosting more Deep Clean events over the next few days:
- Saturday 10 March – Queen Caroline Draw Dock W6 9BX, 10am-1pm
- Sunday 11 March – Newcastle Draw Dock E14 3BW, 9am-11.30am
- Tuesday 13 March – Poplar Rowing Club E14 3DT, 10am-12.30pm
