BBC TV ‘Coast’ presenter Dr Alice Roberts swapped beaches for sewers in December on a visit to Hammersmith Pumping Station, one of the sewer overflow points the Thames Tunnel needs to tackle.
The Birmingham University professor was recording a Radio Four ‘Costing The Earth’ feature on the Thames Tunnel project. The half hour programme is due to air on 21 February at 3.30pm.
After her visit, Alice told her Twitter followers: “I’ve emerged unscathed from the glorious underground citadel that is London’s sewers.”
In November the ‘Costing The Earth’ production team also attended the consultation drop-in held at the Beormund Community Centre in Bermondsey, to gather local people’s views on the plans put forward for local construction sites.
They have also been briefed by the Environment Agency and Hammersmith & Fulham Council.
