Next month Thames Water is holding a public meeting for local people to have their say on the preferred Thames Tunnel site at King Edward Memorial Park Foreshore.

This follows three drop-in events held at Glamis Hall on 23, 24 and 26 November 2011, which were attended by over 250 people.

The public meeting scheduled for Thursday 12 January will be a chance for everyone with an interest in the proposed site in Wapping to hear more and ask questions of Thames Water.

The meeting will start at 7.30pm in the church hall at St Paul’s Shadwell (302 The Highway, E1W 3DH) and be chaired by local MP Jim Fitzpatrick.

Jim Fitzpatrick said:

“The proposed site at King Edward Memorial Park Foreshore has
undoubtedly generated a lot of interest for those immediately affected and I am keen for everyone with concerns to be able to have their say and their questions heard and addressed.

“I am grateful to Thames Water for holding this meeting and would urge anyone with an interest in this potential site to attend so that an open and constructive dialogue can take place.”

Phil Stride, Head of London Tideway Tunnels added:

“Since our first phase of consultation, we have listened to comments and feedback and made significant changes to the foreshore option. This includes a smaller worksite and a revised access route which would allow an improved route for the Thames Path when work has been completed.

There are pros and cons with the King Edward Memorial Park Foreshore, Heckford Street and the other three identified options. Particular concerns have been expressed about the potential increase in lorry movements in Tower Hamlets should we not be able to move materials in and out by barge.

“There are clearly strong feelings where use of the park is concerned and that is why we are providing residents and members of the public with as many occasions as possible to voice their concerns. This public meeting, along with the additional three days of consultation events, will provide this opportunity.”
